Quintanilla's blast lifts Rockies over Reds in 12th inning

Baseball Betting Lines

08/24/2008 - Denver, CO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Omar Quintanilla hit a game-ending home run in the 12th inning to propel the Colorado Rockies to a 4-3 comeback victory over the Cincinnati Reds in the rubber match of a three-game series.

Ubaldo Jimenez had a solid outing, allowing three runs -- two earned -- on four hits in six innings pitched with six strikeouts and four walks. Ryan Speier (2-1) got the win after pitching around two walks in the top of the 12th.

Colorado's bullpen combined for six shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out eight and walking four.

Ian Stewart went 3-for-6 and Matt Holliday went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Rockies, who have won seven of nine.

Johnny Cueto threw three hitless innings -- giving up an unearned run with three walks -- before leaving due to soreness in his right triceps tendon. He struck out four in his appearance. Mike Lincoln (1-5) took the loss for the second straight game after giving up the home run to Quintanilla.

Chris Dickerson hit his third home run of the season and Edwin Encarnacion went 2-for-3 with two walks for the Reds, who have lost three of four.

Trailing by one, Colorado got to David Weathers in the ninth. Holliday started the inning by reaching base on Brandon Phillips' error at second. After going to second on a balk, Holliday scored on Brad Hawpe's sacrifice fly after Jay Bruce threw the ball into the dugout, tying the game at three.

The Rockies finally ended it in the 12th off Lincoln. After he got the first batter to pop out, Quintanilla blasted his second home run of the year to give Colorado the win.

The Rockies scored in the first thanks to some Reds miscues. Scott Podsednik reached with one out on an error by Joey Votto and stole second. Holliday and Hawpe worked back-to-back walks to load the bases for Garrett Atkins, who reached when Bruce dropped a fly ball, giving Colorado a 1-0 lead.

Cincinnati tied the game in the second. Votto led off with a double, and two batters later Encarnacion singled to put men on the corners. Corey Patterson followed by beating out a potential double play groundout, allowing Votto to score.

The Reds took the lead in the fifth. Encarnacion walked, advanced to third on Jimenez's throwing error on a bunt and scored on Paul Bako's sacrifice fly.

Dickerson hit his second homer in as many days in the sixth to give Cincinnati a 3-1 lead.

The Rockies cut the deficit to one in the seventh. Holliday led off with a single, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch by Jeremy Affeldt.
