08/22/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - With pennant races heating up during the latter stages of the regular season, there is no better time than now for New York Mets ace Johan Santana to get on a roll. He leads the National League East-leading Mets tonight in the opener of a four-game series versus the Houston Astros at Shea Stadium.
Santana had lost three straight starts to close out the month of June, but has since gone 4-0 with a 2.27 earned run average over his last nine outings. Santana tossed his first shutout as a Met in his latest start Sunday at Pittsburgh, yielding just three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks in a 4-0 win.
He is now 11-7 with a 2.75 earned run average in 26 starts in 2008.
The left-hander and two-time American League Cy Young Award winner will face Houston for the second time this season. Santana did not record a decision on August 2 at Minute Maid Park in a 5-4 Mets loss, although he allowed just a run and three hits in 6 1/3 innings of work. He is 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in two career games (1 start) against the Astros.
New York will try to maintain its lead in the NL East on Friday and has won three straight after a sweep of Atlanta. The Mets have also won nine of 10 and 12 of their last 15 games.
In Thursday's 5-4 victory over the Braves, Carlos Delgado singled home the winning run in the ninth and finished 5-for-5 with three RBI. David Wright had three hits, including a home run, and scored three times for the Mets, who took advantage of Philadelphia's loss to Washington Thursday night.
Luis Ayala tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for the win, while starter Pedro Martinez was reached for four runs in seven innings in a no-decision.
Houston has lost four of its last six games, including Wednesday's 5-2 setback to the Milwaukee Brewers in the finale of a three-game series at Miller Park. Wandy Rodriguez absorbed the loss despite a solid start, pitching 5 1/3 innings and surrendering three runs -- two earned -- on three hits, while striking out six and walking five.
Geoff Blum went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Miguel Tejada added two hits and a run scored for Houston, which will send ace Roy Oswalt to the hill in Friday's series opener with the Mets.
Oswalt has won three straight starts and is 5-0 with a 2.93 earned run average over his last seven outings. In his most recent performance Sunday versus Arizona, Oswalt hurled eight shutout innings of one-hit ball with 10 K's and a pair of walks to improve to 11-8 in 24 starts this season.
The right-handed Oswalt faced Santana and the Mets on August 2 and did not factor in the outcome of the Astros' 5-4 victory. Oswalt gave up four runs and six hits in six innings of that game, and is 5-4 with a 3.71 ERA in 12 career appearances versus New York.
Houston swept that three-game home set with the Mets and has won four of the last seven matchups in this series.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect
LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.
Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.
Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
