Marlins topple Reds again

Baseball Betting Lines

07/22/2007 - Miami, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Dan Uggla finished 4-for-5 with a two-run homer and a run-scoring double as Florida bested Cincinnati, 9-3, in the finale of a four-game set at Dolphin Stadium.

Mike Jacobs also hit a two-run homer for the Marlins, who won the final three games of the series. Miguel Cabrera was 2-for-4 with a two-run single and Josh Willingham finished 4-for-5 and drove in a run.

Rick Vanden Hurk started on the hill for Florida and allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings of work. Renyel Pinto (2-3) earned the win after hurling a scoreless seventh.

Jeff Keppinger was 4-for-5 with a two-run homer for the Reds, who finished an 11-game road swing at 5-6. Adam Dunn was 2-for-5 with an RBI double.

Cincinnati starter Bronson Arroyo (4-11) pitched well early but couldn't sustain it. The right-hander surrendered four runs on eight hits in six-plus innings of work to pick up the loss. Arroyo issued four walks and fanned six in the game.

With the game even at two, Florida took control with a three-run seventh. Cody Ross walked to lead off the frame and Uggla quickly chased him home with his 19th home run of the year. The Reds pulled Arroyo at that point but Cabrera greeted Mike Stanton with a double and, a batter later, Willingham slapped an RBI single up the middle.

The Marlins then broke things open in the eighth. Alfredo Amezaga led off by tripling off Kirk Saarloos. Pinch hitter Jason Wood followed with an infield single that plated Amezaga. A Ross single put runners on the corners and Uggla ripped a double off the wall in left that scored Wood. Cabrera finally capped the frame with a two-run single that gave Florida a comfortable 9-2 margin.

Dunn's RBI double in the ninth accounted for the final margin.

Keppinger put the Reds on top early with a two-run homer in the first. Ryan Freel led off the game with a single and Keppinger followed with his first home run of the season over the wall in left.

The Marlins finally broke through and evened things in the fifth when Jacobs connected on a two-run home run. With a runner at second and two down, Jacobs deposited his seventh homer of the year over the fence in right.

Game Notes

Uggla has 38 doubles on the year...The Marlins lost shortstop Hanley Ramirez early in the game. Ramirez injured himself while swinging and missing at a pitch from Arroyo in the bottom of the first inning. The reigning National League Rookie of the Year immediately dropped his bat in pain and grabbed his left shoulder. Ross replaced Ramirez, who leads the Marlins with a .336 batting average and has 16 home runs, 46 runs batted in and 27 stolen bases this season...Troubled Marlins pitcher Scott Olsen will most likely make his next scheduled start on Wednesday. Olsen was arrested Saturday morning after he did not pull over his car during a traffic stop. According to the Miami Herald, Olsen was charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest with violence and fleeing and eluding a police officer. The incident occurred after the 23-year-old Olsen returned to Florida's rotation after serving a two-game suspension by the team for insubordination.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds

With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.

Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season.  Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.

MySportsbook.com week 1 NFL lines

Now that the 2008 NFL schedule is finally out, it is only matter-of-course for lines on “Week 1” to follow.  Of course MySportsbook.com is the first to churn out odds for the NFL’s inaugural week for the upcoming season.   Expect a lot of fireworks the first Thursday night of the season as the defending champion Indianapolis Colts face off against the surprise of the 2008 season, the New Orleans Saints.  These teams were ranked #1 and #3 in the NFL respectively a season ago so a high scoring affair could be in order.  As of now, the Colts will be giving 6 points to the Saints; keep in mind the Saints were one of the better road teams last season going 6-3 SU and 7-2 ATS.  The first Monday night of the season will again provide a “double feature”. Coming off a disappointing season, the Cincinnati Bengals will look to get back to playoffs and improve their public image as they take on the AFC North favorite Baltimore Ravens.  The second game features a couple of teams that haven’t had too much success recently but each could make some noise if the NFC is as weak as it was last year as the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals. The most interesting game of the opening week will feature the NFC champion Bears as they hit the road to take on the NFL’s top team during last year’s regular season, the San Diego Chargers.
